Food:

  • Het Wapen van Kennemerland (Haarlem): 
  • Tent6 (Zandvoort Beach): Nice with kids! 
  • Café Colette (Haarlem): traditional French bistro with great food and wines 
  • Pannenkoekenhuis de Konijnenberg (Heemstede): great pancakes, kids love it 
  • La Forca (Haarlem): great Italian restaurant 
  • Toujours; great sushi
  • Restaurant Wilma & Albert (Haarlem): another traditional French bistro with great steaks and bbq $
  • Ratatouille (Haarlem): Probably the best in Haarlem. You won’t be disappointed. Michelin star. 
  • Table24 (Haarlem): great food platters and cocktails 
  • The golden Bull; Argentinian steaks; the best

Local bars & local coffee:

  • Café Van Beinum (Haarlem): our favorite Bar, they also have great Hamburgers.
  • Viq; winebar
  • Cocktailbar Wigbolt: Best cocktails in Haarlem
  • Beaches (Zandvoort & Bloemendaal) are also always a great place for drinks with good weather

Beach (our favourite hangouts):

  • Tent 6 (Zandvoort): great laid-back beach place with great food, nice place for kids.
  • Hippie Fish (Zandvoort): another relaxing spot with really nice food
  • Woodstock; (Bloemendaal); very famous and when its getting dark; there are nice parties
  • Branding (Noordwijk): just a bit further but also a lovely beach (with great breakfasts)

Kids & Outside:

  • Linneaushof (5.5km): largest outdoor playground in Europe
  • Baluba (Zandvoort): Indoor Playground
  • KidsBalooz Haarlem: indoor playground
  • Groenendaal Bos (Forest): nice forest for a Sunday morning stroll, also has a childrens’ farm
  • Groenendaal Speeltuin: outdoor playground

Sports

  • Cycling, running or walking to the beach
  • Running: It is nice and easy to run around the Groenendaal Forest. If you want something more challenging, run from our house towards the dunes and back. 
  • Golf Club Haarlemmermeerse

  • Curcuma – Trendy hotspot for vegan and vegetarian breakfast or lunch.

  • De Lichtfabriek – Industrial-style restaurant with great food and drinks.

🎨 Things to Do & Experience

  • Cheese Market (Thursdays, April to September) – Traditional and touristy, but a must-see.

  • City Hall on the Market Square – Stunning Gothic building, often surrounded by photogenic events.

  • Museum Gouda – Art, history, and the famous Gouda pipes.

  • St. Janskerk – The longest church in the Netherlands, known for its beautiful stained glass windows.

  • Canal Cruise – A relaxing way to see the city from the water.

  • Cycling around the Reeuwijkse Plassen – Nature and tranquility just outside the city.
